Hourly-to-salary formula

Hourly wage × hours per week × working weeks per year = estimated annual gross pay.

When to use this tool

This calculator helps translate an hourly wage into annual, monthly, and weekly gross compensation. It is especially useful when comparing hourly and salaried jobs or estimating income when your weekly hours are predictable.

How the result is calculated

Annual gross pay is hourly rate × hours worked per week × working weeks per year. Changing either hours or weeks makes the estimate more realistic for part-time, seasonal, or unpaid-leave situations.

Worked example

At $25 per hour, 40 hours per week, and 52 weeks per year, estimated gross pay is $52,000. If you work only 48 paid weeks, the same hourly rate becomes $48,000.

What to keep in mind

The result excludes overtime premiums, shift differentials, bonuses, commissions, taxes, and benefits. For irregular schedules, use your expected average hours rather than automatically assuming 40.

Hourly wage conversion reference

For a standard 40-hour week and 52 paid weeks, multiply the hourly rate by 2,080 to estimate annual gross salary. For example, $20/hour is $41,600/year, $25/hour is $52,000/year, $30/hour is $62,400/year, $40/hour is $83,200/year, and $50/hour is $104,000/year.

Weekly, biweekly, and monthly pay

Weekly gross pay is hourly rate × hours per week. Biweekly gross pay is approximately two weeks of pay. Average monthly gross pay can be estimated by dividing annual gross pay by 12. These figures are before taxes, deductions, bonuses, overtime, or benefits.

Different work schedules

A 35-hour or 37.5-hour schedule produces a different annual figure than a 40-hour schedule. Part-time, seasonal, and unpaid-leave workers should enter their expected hours per week and paid weeks per year rather than relying on the 2,080-hour shortcut.
